Notes: Note on verso: No. 92 Roosevelt Field: Roosevelt Field, starting point of the famous flight of Charles A. Lindbergh from New York to Paris, is situated between Garden City and Westbury. Lindbergh, in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, hopped off from Roosevelt Field at 7:52 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 1927, and landed at Le Bourget Field, Paris, at 5:24 p.m. (New York time) on Saturday, May 21. It was announced in August, 1928, that a syndicate of prominent men headed by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., had acquired a ten-acre area of Roosevelt Field for use as a park to commemorate the Lindbergh flight. Many other transatlantic and transcontinental flights have been associated with Roosevelt Field. In 1929 Roosevelt Field, Inc., was formed to take over Roosevelt Field, containing 391 acres, and Curtiss Field, containing ninety-six acres, immediately adjoining the larger aviation ground. Since that time there have been many improvements in the facilities of the field, including the erection of modern hangers. The camera is pointed toward Westbury. Title provided by Library staff.
