Description: This entire set is in very good vintage condition. There is no apparent evidence of repair to any item. A hairline crack in the glaze is noted on upper sidewall of the interior. This tureen is one of the best copies of this iconic item that I have owned. That said, it is not without several, arguably minor, issues. “My Garden” items have a tendency to discolor badly in spots over time, and I am pleased to report that this piece is not plagued with that particular issue. The most noticeable flaw with this item is found on the upper interior of the sidewall. Here we find an approximate one-inch long cracking the glaze the catches the nail (exaggerated and highlighted in Picture 5). This breach “wraps around” the rim of the dish immediately above it (Picture 7). But this “crack" is not a “through and through” — meaning that there is not a corresponding, identical seam on the exterior of the tureen — which suggests that this could be just a serious crazing thread. Over time, this breach has slightly darkened. Because of its position, however, it can be easy to miss (as I did when I made this purchase!). Apart from this, the white interior of the tureen absolutely gleams, and it as close to immaculate as I’ve ever seen on this model. Under oblique lighting, very tiny raised “pimples” in the glaze are found (the most noticeable of which is highlighted in Picture 10). The edges of the tureen are smooth and free of fleabites; and the two handles are smooth, well attached, and exhibit very good color. The hand-painted turquoise exterior of the tureen is reasonably uniform, and only one “vanilla bean-like” fleck was noted here (Picture 12). The white underside of the tureen is pristine: brightly glazed, showing no signs of glaze erosion or serious color loss. The lid is in excellent condition. The glazing is reasonably uniform, an the coloring of the artwork is very well-preserved. There are two minor quibbles to be found on the oblong handle atop the lid. There is one spot where there seems to be a “glaze skip” — or area of color loss that is slightly rough to the touch — and to the northwest of that area is an errant smudge of black glaze (exaggerated and highlighted in Picture 14). The underside of the lid is also in excellent shape. Upon close examination, only one small, very faint vanilla bean-like fleck that reads “brown” could be found in the shadows underneath the inner lip (Picture 16). Although the inner lip itself is unglazed, it is remarkably smooth to the touch all around its circumference. All in all, this two-piece set is remarkably well-preserved and would be a welcome addition to any “My Garden” collection or to the serious Marianne Westman enthusiast. This item is numbered and stamped “Rörstrand Sweden MW” and “MY GARDEN OVENWARE 53F.” The numbers 53 are also incised on the bottom of the tureen just north of the backstamp. Please refer to all furnished photographs in this listing, as they form an integral, supplemental part of the description. I try to “over describe” my items, pointing out any irregularities that a buyer of vintage goods might find objectionable. I am certainly happy to provide additional photography upon request. Shipping: The listed shipping is for buyers in the contiguous United States. If you reside in Alaska or Hawaii, please contact me for a shipping quote. My auctions are currently closed to international customers, but if you reside outside the US and are interested in bidding, please reach out to me. (Please understand that I am not responsible for any duties or delays imposed by Customs in your country, and I cannot declare any items shipped to you for less than their sale price.) Since I am a new seller, for auction lots with more than one item, I may use an outside packing service in order to help ensure that your purchase arrives damage-free. Fragile collectibles will be double-boxed where appropriate and practical. Return Policy: As a longtime buyer of vintage pottery, I understand that disappointments sometimes happen. Terms like “excellent” and “near mint” are subjective, meaning wildly different things to different people. And it can be difficult to agree on when “wear and tear consistent with age” has ventured into the territory of actual damage. Rather than quibble, if you are dissatisfied with any item that you purchase from me, for any reason, simply return it to me within 14 days in the condition in which it was sent, and I will happily refund your money. I will pay for return shipping costs, but regrettably, I cannot refund outbound shipping and handling fees in such cases. Of course, should an item sustain any damage during transit, you will receive a complete refund. (In the event that a multi-item shipment sustains only partial damage, please contact me so that we can work out a satisfactory solution.) All I ask in return is that you document any damage, retain all packing materials, and assist me during the claims process. In my experience, the best transactions are ones where there is open, honest communication on both sides. My goal is to find happy homes for these treasures, with the hope that they will bring their new owners as much joy as they’ve brought me. About Me: I have been an avid Blue Fire (Blå Eld) and Koka Blue (Koka Blå) collector for almost 20 years. I own over 400 pieces in each line, so if you are hunting for something in particular, please reach out to me – there’s a good chance that I have what you’re looking for. I absolutely love chatting with other Rorstrand enthusiasts! Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’d rather be deluged with questions than to have my buyers experience one drop of regret with any item that I sell.
