Description: One Yard of "Foliage, wallpaper designed by John Henry Dearle" for William Morris, Rose & Hubble, The William Morris Collection, Morris and Company, Private Collection/Bridgeman Art Library. This fabric is one of the very early William Morris reproduction fabrics and is quite authentic and rare. The design is an overall leafy one, with irregular wreaths of darker leaves enclosing leaves in a lighter color on a white background. The design is made parallel to the selvage. The leaves are darker and lighter greenish gray. "John Henry Dearle (22 August 1859 – 15 January 1932) was a British textile and stained-glass designer trained by the artist and craftsman William Morris who was much influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Dearle designed many of the later wallpapers and textiles released by Morris & Co., and contributed background and foliage patterns to tapestry designs featuring figures by Edward Burne-Jones and others." The fabric has been stored in a plastic bin in a smoke-free, animal-free household. I will wrap and mail carefully. Happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases from my auctions according to eBay rules, but please let me know if you are bidding on more than one of my auctions.
