Description: Rosenthal Plate Versailles Mold Handpainted Pink Apple Blossoms w/Gold 1898-1906 ROSENTHAL PLATE 1898-1906 Versailles Mold Handpainted PINK Apple Blossoms w/GOLD Exquisite Decorative ROSENTHAL Hand Painted 8" PLATE, Pink APPLE BLOSSOMS w/Green LEAVES, circa 1898-1906 from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, on the Versailles embossed mold DESCRIPTION: This features a large spray of pink apple blossoms & buds connected by brown branches with green leaves. The rim has a very narrow gold band. The washes fade from dark green to much lighter greens and eventually to yellow, pink & blue. These really make the flowers stand out. CONDITION: The condition of this plate is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no rubbing to any of the gold although it is very narrowly applied on the rim. There are no utensil marks. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The plate has a diameter of 8" and a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal, Dieter Struss dates these pieces as used in 1898-1906 time period. This hand painted plate is on the Versailles mold.
