Description: Log Cabin Lodge in Gallup on US Highway 66 Here is a flat (staple and matches removed) unstruck front strike matchcover from the Log Cabin Lodge in Gallup, NM. There is a two-page spread in Russ Olsen’s book Route 66 Lost & Found on pages 112 and 113 that show a “then” picture postcard and a “now” picture of the Log Cabin Lodge along with a narrative. Tony and Francis Leone built the Log Cabin Lodge in 1937 beginning with just six log cabins each with a fireplace. Eventually duplex-type cabins were added and then a motel-like wing. Multiple owners operated the place from the 1960s and into the 1990s when it was closed. The property remained closed and abandoned when Russ published his book in 2004 but it was razed later that year, a fact that Russ mentioned in his second Route 66 Lost & Found book. The property was actually a bare lot for about five more years until it was built upon. There is no glue, tape or handwriting on the inside of this matchcover. This matchcover is in excellent unstruck condition. I have 250 US Highway 66 matchcover auctions on eBay all with opening auction bids of just $1.00.
