Description: Royal Albert 3 Saucers 5 1/2" Chelsea Bird Blue Scalloped Multicolor Gold 1940's Exquisite Decorative SCALLOPED Set of 3 SAUCERS from ROYAL ALBERT BONE CHINA, BLUE & MULTICOLOR CHELSEA BIRD w/GOLD Trim, from Longton, Staffordshire, England, circa 1940's DESCRIPTION: The beautiful scalloped blue Chelsea Bird saucer set of 3 was produced in a striking multicolor color palette with gold trim. This has the deep blue color accent with warm yellow scrollwork next to the scalloped rim on the 3 saucers. The floral sprays look so crisp with their roses and petite blue flowers surrounding the Chelsea bird. The rims are beautifully trimmed in gold. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no gold or color wear. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The deep saucers have a diameter of 5 1/2" with a height of 15/16". HISTORY/MARKS: Thomas C. Wild joined his father Thomas Wild in purchasing Albert Work in 1895. Upon his father’s death in 1898, he became sole proprietor adding St. Mary’s Works in Longton in 1905. As Wild’s business prospered, he acquired other factories and pottery business. By the early 1920’s he owned or controlled 15 potteries. Thomas’ sons, Thomas E. and Frederick C., were admitted to the partnership in 1917 and the father retired in 1932. The business was incorporated as Thomas C. Wild & Sons, Ltd. Thomas C. Wild & Sons (Royal Albert) took over Paragon China in 1960, then merged with the Lawley Group to become Allied English Potteries in 1964, subsequently Paragon and Royal Albert joined the Royal Doulton Group in 1972. The mark on these saucers is identified as used in 1940's by the Royal Albert website (royalalbertpatterns). The registration #839184 was introduced in 1941.
