Description: Royal Albert Salad Plate 8 1/8" Silver Birch Grey Pink Green Blue w/Gold 1940's Exquisite Decorative SALAD PLATE from ROYAL ALBERT BONE CHINA, Pattern SILVER BIRCH, Grey, Pink, Green & Blue w/GOLD, SILVER BIRCH TREES w/ Flowers, from Longton, Staffordshire, England, circa 1940's DESCRIPTION: The beautiful scalloped salad plate was produced in a striking grey, pink, green & blue color palette on high white porcelain. The floral patches look so bold with their vivid colors displayed in front of the bark of the silver birch trees. The silver birch bark really does look realistic. The outer edge of the salad plate is trimmed in the bark. The rim is beautifully trimmed in a gold. CONDITION: While this salad plate is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks or wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The salad plate has a diameter of 8 1/8" and a height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Thomas C. Wild joined his father Thomas Wild in purchasing Albert Work in 1895. Upon his father’s death in 1898, he became sole proprietor adding St. Mary’s Works in Longton in 1905. As Wild’s business prospered, he acquired other factories and pottery business. By the early 1920’s he owned or controlled 15 potteries. Thomas’ sons, Thomas E. and Frederick C., were admitted to the partnership in 1917 and the father retired in 1932. The business was incorporated as Thomas C. Wild & Sons, Ltd. Thomas C. Wild & Sons (Royal Albert) took over Paragon China in 1960, then merged with the Lawley Group to become Allied English Potteries in 1964, subsequently Paragon and Royal Albert joined the Royal Doulton Group in 1972. The Silver Birch pattern mark on this piece pieces is identified as used in the 1940's by the Royal Albert website (royalalbertpatterns).
