Royale Stratford Bay Horse Stirrup Cup - Silver Plate Bevel

Description: Beautiful Rare example of Bay Horse Head Bone China Stirrup Cup produced by Royale Stratford. Royale Stratford, a manufacturer of fine bone china, was established in 1976, by John Hinks, at St Mary's Mill, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent; the Heart of The Potteries. In 1999 the business was sold to Bloor Potteries, but was closed in 2005. Royale Stratford's Stirrup Cup collection is inspired by the rare, and highly collectable drinking vessels of the Georgian period. A Stirrup Cup is a "Parting Cup" given to hunting guests when they have their feet in the stirrups, prior to a traditional hunt. Tradition also dictates that when a stirrup cup is filled with a 'suitable' liquid, it cannot be put down until the contents are drained! Beautifully sculpted in English fine bone china and adorned with a heavily silver plated brass bezel, the stirrup cup features the head of a handsome bay horse, ears pricked, with flowing black mane and distinctive white blaze. The stirrup cup is entirely free-hand painted and signed by the artist, J Roberts. The stirrup cup, which measures 5.5"/14cms tall, is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
