I understand this robe was bought as a gift from Japan a few years ago and was seldom worn. This garment is a beautiful, soft but substantial, feminine, top quality, cotton, Japanese-made kimono dressing gown / robe.The base colour is a deep blue, like a slightly subdued (not bright) royal blue. The blue colour looks a bit brighter on the photos than it does to the eye. The design shows a few typical Japanese motifs, namely plum blossom and birds. The plum blossom flowers are graduated blues with white and golden brown stamens at the centres of the flowers. The stems are grey and black. The little birds are green, white with orangey-brown breasts. Plum Blossom (ume) is an iconic Japanese motif. Plum blossom is often shown in Japanese decorative art and on kimonos. In the UK we sometimes think it is cherry blossom but the rounded petals denote this as plum blossom. Plum Blossom blooms earlier than other plants and so represents the thawing of winter and the changing of seasons. As such, they’ve come to be known as the heralds of spring. They are associated with good health, strong endurance, and overcoming the adversity of winter.The makers label is from one of the best makers of these types of robe in my opinion called Sakurai Shoji. The care label shows that it is 100% cotton, machine washable and 'Made in Japan'.The same pattern is almost discontinued today. I only found it still selling here for 87euro + 5 euro shipping which is about £76.50. Please check the measurements given below against your own robe to check the fit. The length is ankle length, depending on your height, at about 55"/140cm long.The cuff to cuff width is 48"/122cm. So the sleeve is not so long.The width across the back (armpit to armpit) is 22.5"/57cm. The width all around the kimono at the waist, from the front of one edge all the way round the back to the front of the other edge, is about 54"/137cm and please remember that you need a good overlap in the front. The robe weighs 400g. The belt is about 82"/208cm long. AGE & CONDITION: It is fairly contemporary in date. I understand it was bought about 8 years ago in Japan and never worn.It appears to be new and unused. A few subtle creases from storage only.
