Description: This is a most unusual and rare Erdmann Schlegelmilch (ES) Prov. Saxe toothpick holder. This beautiful allegorical example bears the name Angelica Kauffman, the original artist that this transfer is based upon. Dating from the early 1900's, this scene features two seated women and a Bacchus-likefigure. It is decorated with a combination of transfer and hand painting. The identical scene is illustrated in Gaston's Volume II, pg. 156 and Volume IV, pg. 237. Please note the white area under the figure's right arm as being original manufacture and consistent with the cited reference. There are two camera glare spots below that as well. The condition is excellent without chips, cracks or repairs. There does not appear that gold trim was ever present. The gold stenciling beneath the scalloped rim is incomplete, probably as manufactured. It is fullymarked with the green Prov Saxe elliptical mark.
