Description: RUDYARD KIPLING set. The first book is "Captains Courageous" published by Amereon House ncd. Reprint of the 1897 edition. Hardcover. Illustrated, pictorially stamped in gilt. A story of New England deep sea cod fishing. A fantastic coming-of-age story set on the rough seas, it was famously adapted for the screen in 1937, for which Spencer Tracy won a best actor Oscar. A maritime coming of age story, Captains Courageous follows Harvey Cheyne from his spoiled and privileged childhood, to a life-changing experience on the sea that transforms him into a good man. After falling overboard off a luxury liner and being rescued by the crew of a fishing boat, Harvey's eyes are opened to different cultures and classes of the world. He learns the value of hard work and gains a new appreciation for adventure and loyalty. The only book of Kipling set entirely in America. 165 pages plus two additional illustrations. The second book is "STALKY AND COMPANY" by RUDYARD KIPLING published by Doubleday Doran 1929 hard back book. Stalky and Co is a collection of linked short stories about three boys – Stalky, Beetle, M’Turk – at a minor public school. The stories are closely based on Kipling’s own time at the United Services College at the picturesquely named village of Westward Ho! on the north Devon coast in the 1880s. The school they attend is dedicated to preparing boys to take the Army Examinations for entry to Sandhurst and, ultimately, service in the British Empire. Somewhat rare copy 310 pages selling for over $40.00 on other sites in this condition.
