Rostislav Vladimirovich Polchaninov was a notorious personality of the Russian emigration, member of the National Alliance of Russian Solidarists and figure of the scout movement. Konstantin Konstantinovich Kuznetsov was a Russian artist, painter and graphic artist also known under the pseudonyms Steav Doop, K. Kulig, Kistochkin, Kuzya, K. He is considered to be one of the precursors of comics in Yugoslavia, and the original style of his works made a great contribution to modern European comics. In 1937, he published his first comic strip called “Mother,” and at that time he also drew comedy strips about two monkeys in the style of Walt Disney’s “La Bohème.” In total, between 1937 and 1941 he produced 26 comics for the Belgrade magazine “Mika Mis” (“Mickey Mouse”), which were published by the owner of the Rus publishing house, Russian emigrant Alexander Ivkovic. During the war, he continued to draw mainly military cartoons and posters, as well as allegorical propaganda works, whose main characters were important political figures of that time, such as Winston Churchill ("nobleman of the evil ruler"), Josip Broz Tito ("bandit") and Joseph Stalin ("northern bloodthirsty ruler"). In 1944, Kuznetsov left Yugoslavia and ended up in a camp for displaced persons in Austria; finally in 1946 he ended up in Munich. Konstantin Kuznetsov died in Los Angeles. His works are now kept in the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco.
