Description: This is a nice larger box with great detail of a Snow Maiden in full length coat etc. Very striking and well-done painting. There is a lot of mother of pearl inlaid in this one which really sets it off and makes it shimmer. Intricate details to the painting. Has the original little slip of paper in it stating date, artist etc. In Russian. Also the original price sticker is still in the bottom showing they paid $1045.00. It is marked Fedoskino (in Russian) and dated 1991 and artist signed. Russian lacquer art developed from the art of icon painting which came to an end with the collapse of Imperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people's homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making Papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales. Size: All items shown against ruler or in hand or both in one picture to help you judge size. Measures approximately 7 7/8 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches deep. Condition: Nice vintage condition as pictured. No chips or cracks. Please see all the pictures as they are part of the description. I use a Sony Alpha 5100 24.3 mega pixel camera with macro lens (extreme close-up) this draws out many flaws that are not noticeable in hand.
