Description: VINTAGE BAKELITE BANGLE BRACELET BUTTERSCOTCH RARE THIN & CARVED TESTED Extremely nice vintage condition with no cracks or chips except as shown in photos. I am selling my entire Bakelite collection which includes over 50 pieces.....bracelets and brooches/pins. This piece is particularly lovely. It is deep carved and thin which makes it extremely versatile. There is a tiny chip on the inside which I only noticed for the 1st time as I was photographing it for sale.SEE FINAL PHOTO. I did my best on measurements but, as always, they are approximate only. COLOR: ButterscotchITEM TYPE: Antique from the 1930's-1940'sMATERIAL: Plastic, BakeliteMEASUREMENT: Width: 2.5" Height: .5" STYLE: Art Deco It is such fun to wear, and mixing and matching stacks of bangles is just part of the personalization of your own collection. It is also fun to display. I have tested each piece I am selling and know that each one is authentic Bakelite. If a Q-Tip turns yellow after testing, the piece is genuine Bakelite. A bracelet or a few bracelets are a wonderful addition of whimsey to whatever you are accessorizing and can be worn for any occasion. . I always used hinged or elastic bracelets at my wrist to hold in place a stack of bracelets because my wrist is small but this piece is beautiful on its own. My research has produced the following information: "Leo Beakeland (1863 -1944), a Belgian who had moved to America, was the inventor of Bakelite. Made by the condensation of phenol and formaldehyde in the presence of a catalyst, it was used for everything from tools and telephones to jewelry. "Bakelite" is frequently used as a generic name for all phenol formaldehyde, including Catalin and Marblette, which came later and in a wider range of colors. Bakelite is a thermoset plastic, meaning that once cast or molded and hardened, it will not melt, burn or dissolve. It can only be worked by carving, sawing, tumbling, painting and gluing. Making Bakelite jewelry was at it's zenith from the late 1920s till the start of WWII in 1942, and even after Diane Von Furstenberg and Hattie Carnegie, among others, lent their names to this wonderful jewelry. The lack of money and need for inexpensive fun during the Depression era of the 1930s gave the whimsy, colorful and cheerful look of bakelite jewelry the perfect market. The sophisticated Deco and machine age look of some of the pieces made them fashion-forward." Ships USPS Priority MailSmoke and pet free home NO RETURNS PLEASE I am working to downsize my life.
