Light rubbing and a few small scuffs to boards, front board and front free endpaper detached, rear board starting at ends but secure, moderate rubbing to extremities, chipping to spine ends, faint offsetting to endleaves, small wormhole to upper right corner of front endleaves and title page not affecting text, later armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Moderate toning to interior, occasional light foxing, light soiling in a few places. * Third edition. Freeman's long career included two terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1776, 1778) and a long tenure as clerk to the state courts. At other times he served as a probate judge. He also wrote several legal manuals. The Town Officer includes oaths, instructions, descriptions of powers and duties of officials, tables and also an extensive appendix that includes an outline of the power and duty of a grand jurors, a table of crimes and punishments, and an index. The final edition of this guide, the eighth, was published in 1815. Thomas [1749-1831] was an important early Massachusetts printer, newspaper publisher and author.
