From the first, however, the people's survival depended on their ability to respond to frequent changes in the land and its resources, its residents, and the legal systems that extended authority over them. The pueblo and the American West Center of the University of Utah gathered an extensive collection of materials related to Santa Ana history. Laura Bayer of the American West Center, with Floyd Montoya of Santa Ana and the elders and members of the pueblo, has used this archive to recount that history from Tamaya's perspective.
