Description: The engraving offered here is a political satire published during the time of King George III. According to a description by the British Library, an impression from the plate for the engraving appeared in The London Magazine in 1770. I will not attempt to describe the politics underlying the satire, a full description of which can be found in an online publication from the British Library. Another briefer online description from the London Metropolitan Archives says that the print shows "the Recorder, James Eyre, outside Guildhall; he is dressed in wig and gown, but bare-footed and without breeches and in his hand he carries a petition for place or pension". Apparently the quote below is by the Lord mayor of London at the time, Mr. Thomas Harley. If you are interested in arcane British politics under George III, this is the print for you. This print is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints, art and other items that I sell are not "reproductions". Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
