Description: Effigy Vessel Measuring 5" X 3 1/2" X 1" From a Yale Professors collection a Rare Museum retired PreColumbian MesoAmerican Shamanic Taino Human God Effigy Pottery Lucky Figure. This is a rare ORIGINAL Metropolitan Museum of Art retired and Museum excavation artifact Effigy numbered on his foot. Taino Effigy sculpture is made of solid pottery. This sculpture is carved and molded depicting a likeliness of a man, most likely a God like figure, with big eyes. The Taíno were an indigenous people of the Caribbean. There spirituality centered on the worship of zemís. A zemí/cemí is a spirit or ancestor. The Taíno society was made up of naborias (commoners) and nitaínos (nobles). The naboria women were highly skilled in agriculture; the people depended on it, and worshiped the zemi god Yucahu, which means spirit of cassava, the Taínos' main crop. This effigy had some small damage to it neck and repairs were made during the Museums excavation. This is a piece that once served a purpose. The pottery itself is very solid. This piece was decommissioned from a museums collection. Taino art is the last unexplored pre Columbian aesthetic, making this very rare and ORIGINAL piece a great addition for any collector.
