Description: A great US stamp issue and a great story is the 1943-1944 Overrun Countries series. These premium issues are unique among US stamps of that era in several respects. As the Bureau of Printing and Engraving did not have the ability to print the multi-color stamps due to technical limitations and war production demands, these were printed by the American Bank Note Company, which had last printed US stamps in the 1800’s. These sheets also feature the country name, rather than the plate number in the corner, and were issued as 5 cent stamps rather than the 3 cent regular rate. Most critically in assessing the value of these sheets, only 1/6 of the number of the Overrun Country sheets were produced as compared with other commemorative stamps of the era. Mint, never hinged.
