Description: Scott U9, Philippines overprinted, U79 light amber envelope, posted by a unclear strike for a cancel with 3-ring target killer, to Mr Ralph Wyckoff, Watsonville, California, on front side and JUN 11, 1904, MANILA, P. I., "RECEIVED", Doremus machine cancel, along with BAY OMBONG, REC'D, VA VIZ, P. I. JUN 6, 1904 and WATSONVILLE, CAL., JUL 15, 1904, REC'D, hand cancels on the reverse side (see scans). Frederick Langford (Doremus Machine Cancels;1988:38) listed earliest reported use of a "RECEIVED" Doremus machine cancel for Manila, P. I., was Apr. 11, 1904, making the example listed, two months later. Cover roughly opened along right margin damaging most of the embossed stamp as well as the country overprint as well as creased/damaged corners.
