Description: SHIPS IN TWO BUSINESS DAYS. You get one MINT-SEALED COIN SIMILAR TO WHAT IS SHOWN HERE: STOCK #11,246 A-E COA NUMBERS WILL VARY. 2018 SILVER proof 2 1/2 CENTS"COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY" AKA "CAT SCAN" COIN. This coin is called a "Tickey" and is revered in South Africa. It is given as a good luck wedding present in South Africa and is widely collected by the populace. I am a big fan of South African coins and usually they have great coin designs. With that being said, this coin has an odd appearance and looks like a mint defect or that something has gone wrong in the minting process. But no, the coin is SUPPOSED to look like this. It is supposed to depict a "cat scan" of the brain and in my opinion they failed miserably in the execution of the design. This particular coin has such a bad design that few were purchased and as an odd quirk of coin collecting - the lower the mintage the more it is worth, even if the low mintage was due to no one wanting the coin and not buying it from the mint.If you want a weird coin then this one will fill the bill quite nicely! This coin is part of the long-running "South African Inventions" series. The 2018 coins featured "Computed Tomography" or "Cat Scan" in the vernacular. The person that invented the process did so in South Africa and his initials are on the coin. This comes in a mint-sealed plastic pouch and includes the coin, capsule, certificate and mint pouch. This is a small coin and is similar in size to a US dime / 10 cent coin. A U.S. dime is 17.91mm in diameter and this coin is 16.3mm and is slightly smaller than a dime. This was sold by the mint for $40 and is no longer available from the South African Mint and its technical status is "sold out". This is mint-sealed and thusly there are no returns on this item - so look at the pictures and make sure that you want it before buying. It is advertised as looking odd and unattractive in a conventional sense. I sell sealed sets also so be sure to see my other listings - I may even have a sealed set on auction on occasion.
