BACKSTORY: Okay, so for those that don't know, in the 80s there was a skateboard video that was released called "The Search For Animal Chin" featuring the Bones Brigade, ya know.. that guy Tony Hawk's old crew. It was kinda a big deal. Such a big deal, you can still find modern shirts feature artwork from the time, like shirts that say "HAVE YOU SEEN HIM" with a photo of a man who's supposed to be "Animal Chin". It so well known, several companies over the years have done their own parodies. I remember Diamond Supply Co. making a O'l Dirty Bastard "Have You Seen Him" tee some years back. However, I remember one of the first. It featured the legend Pro Skateboarder Mark Gonzales in a grainy missing milk carton style print that read, "THE SEARCH FOR GONZ". I specifically remember Gonz himself wearing it, but I could not find the photo or video of him wearing it. Ironically enough, I searched for a long time for the photo. So long I thought I was crazy and just imagined it. BUT THEN I came across a Spike Jonze Vice documentary. And in it was Pro Skateboarder Steve Rocco(see 2nd to last photo) who at the time owned World Industries Skateboards, wearing the shirt that I remember seeing. I immediately went back to the internet and tried to find one and could not. So I decided to bring it back from the dead. I could not find the original image, so I decided to go with a more up-to-date image of The Gonz. Because anyone who skates is going to know Gonz no matter what. If you skated in the 90s, chances are you saw Blind's "Videos Days". What I'm saying is, Gonz had a heavy influence on the creativeness of street skating. However, Gonz isn't just a creative on a skateboard, he's also an artist off. And those who know him through his art will more likely recognize him in the more up-to-date image than a young Gonz. I also wanted to keep the old "dot newsprint cruddy missing persons milk carton" vibe, so I did my best to make it look like so. So, long story long, Mark Gonzales was such a big deal they made an Animal Chin Parody featuring The Gonz. And I decided to make the shirt exist again, because Mark Gonzales is The Gonz, you either get it or you don't.
