Description: Abraham Lincoln - 1947 -Sebastian Miniature - Marblehead Label SML #85 - RARE Baston designed Abraham Lincoln in 1947. In 1958, after he had designed his Lincoln Memorial piece, he replaced the head looking straight ahead with the new dsign looking down. This particular figure was the original design made from 1947 to 1957 with the Lincoln looking straight ahead. Another feature of this particular figure is the imprint on the base which says, Corp 1947 P.W. Baston. This imprint was done with a stamp in the base while the liquid material was hardening. The stamp had to be applied when the cermastone was hard enough to "remember" the imprint, and still wet enough to accept it. This method was obviously impossible with higher production runs, and in later years, Baston changed his imprint to "Sebastion miniatures P.W. Baston, USA". This piece has the imprint done in the early years. Baston attached a silver-green label to the base of his Marblehead-produced (1946 - 1975) pieces. If that label on an old piece is still affixed, that means it is a "Marbelhead Piece" or rare. This piece has the Marblehead label. This piece is approx. 76 years old. There are no chips or cracks, but the paint has worn on his pant leg, shoes, coat sleeve and hiar. Measures 3 1/2 " tall. Base is 2" wide. Does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Sebastian Miniature Becky Thatcher 1976 SML #96 Perfect condition. Measures 1 7/8" wide x 1 1/4" deep and 2 1/2" tall. Has the green label on the bottom which means this particular one was made in approx. 1976. 40 years ago, this was valued at $28.50 per the Sebastian Miniatures Value Register of 1981. Becky Thatcher, daughter of the Judge, is Toms girlfriend and was trapped with him in the cave where Injun Joe has hidden. Baston portrays her standing at her schoolroom desk, holding behind her back a peach which Tom has passed to her. He has written on her slate, "Please take it. I have more." Sebastian Miniatures are a series of small castable ceramic (chalkware) sculptures or figurines first produced by Prescott W Baston Sr. in 1938 until his death in 1984. Each miniature produced is hand painted with meticulous detail. No two look exactly alike. This item does not have the original box, but will be carefully packaged in a giftable box. Ichabod Crane 1950 Sebastian Miniature - Marblehead Piece SML #140 Washington Irvng (1783 - 1859) wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as a short story in his Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. The story takes place at Sleepy Hollow, now Tarrytown, New York. Ichabod Crane, the local schoolmaster, courts Katrina Van Tassel, the town beauty. In this depiction, he demonstrates an intricate step to Miss Van Tassel. Baston attached a silver-green label to the base of his Marblehead-produced (1946 - 1975) pieces. If that label on an old piece is still affixed, that means it is a "Marbelhead Piece" or rare. This miniature has the Marbelhead label. In 1981, it was valued at $115. The paint is in great condition with a couple of chips on the lapel of his coat. Amazing condition for 70 years old. Measures 3 " tall. Base is 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" wide. Does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Sebastian Miniature - The Pilgrims - sculpted in 1947 by Prescott Baston. Perfect condition. Base is 1 3/4" wide. 3/ 1/4" tall. Originally designed on speculation for the Toll House restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts, the Pilgrims were sold at retail through Schmid Bros from the beginnig. The base was changed to a more ornate base in 1958, and the name was changed to "Thanksgiving Couple". This piece is the original design of 1947 before the changes. Original Marblehead label still on the bottom. 41 years ago, this piece was valued at $50. Sebastian Miniatures are a series of small castable ceramic (chalkware) sculptures or figurines first produced by Prescott W Baston Sr. in 1938 until his death in 1984. Each miniature produced is hand painted with meticulous detail. No two look exactly alike. Does not have original box. Will come in a gift box. Sebastian Miniature Charles Dickens SML 208 1979 Emlyn Williams, noted Welsh actor, toured the United States in 1952 and 1953 recreating Charles Dickens reading from his own works. Baston created 200 "Emlyn williams as charles Dickens" miniatures for the Sol Hurok organization which used them as gifts to drama critics in the cities where Williams was to appear. Two years later, Baston dropped the "Emlyn Williams" from the base, and Charles Dickens joined his family of characters in Baston's retail stores. This piece has the blue label on the bottom which puts it's manufacture around 1979. Measures 3 " tall. Base is 1 3/4" wide. Does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Sebastian Miniature #128 - Paul Bunyan The Legend of Paul Bunyan may have first appeared in Quebec or Northern Ontario. James Stevens traced him to a French Canadian logger named Paul Bunyan, who won a reputation as a fighter in the Papineau Rebellion against England in 1837. His popularity remains undiminished inn the American northwest forests. Baston designed the lumberman straddling a small river where houses can be seen between his feet. In July, 1978, the company announced the figurine would be the second to be discontinued forever at the end of October. Subsequent publicity in the limited edition collectibles marketplace has established Paul Bunyan as one of the most popular and sought-after Sebastian Miniatures. This piece has the green label on the bottom which puts it's manufacture around 1976. In 1981, the Paul Bunyan miniature was estimated at $130. Measures 3 1/2 tall. Base is 1 1/4" wide. Does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Sebastian Miniature #70 - Amish Man In 1947, Baston had just begun work with Schmid Bros. and the first appearance of the line was scheduled for a department store in York, Pennsylvania, center of the Pennsylvania Dutch country. He designed this piece specifically for that appearance and it has remained in the line since. This particular piece does not have a label, so I am pricing it as though it was produced in 1981 rather than 1947. Measures 3 1/4" tall with a base measuring 1 1/4". Each piece is hand painted so variances in color are expected. This piece does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Sebastian Miniature Becky Thatcher 1948 SML #96 Perfect condition. Measures 1 7/8" wide x 1 1/4" deep and 2 1/2" tall. Has the Marblehead label on the bottom which means this particular one was made when they were sold exclusively in the Boston MA area. 40 years ago, this was valued at $50 per the Sebastian Miniatures Value Register of 1981. I have more." This item does not have the original box, but will be carefully packaged in a giftable box. Sebastian Miniature #63 - Satchel Eye Dyer (Farmer) In 1946, Bastion designed a pair for his new distributor, Schmid Bros. He took two characters from John Gould's Down-East story "The Farmer Takes a Wife," Satchel-Eye Dyer and his wife. No one knew who Satchel-Eye Dyer was, so Bastion changed the title to "Farmer' two years later. This partular piece was produced in 1976 as indicated by the green label. Measures 3 1/8" tall with a base measuring 3/4". Each piece is hand painted so variances in color are expected. This piece does not have the original box, but a nice gift box will be included. Margaret and Sam Houston - 1980 edition - sculpted in 1980 by Prescott Baston. Perfect condition. Base is 2 1/2" wide. 3/ 1/2" tall. A yellow label with the letter "B" marks all 1980 productions. George & Martha Washington - Pre 1976 - sculpted in 1958 by Prescott Baston. Base is 2 1/2" wide. 3/ 1/4" tall. According to the Sebastian Miniatures Value Register, this piece was sculpted for a Private company for use as gifts and incentives. As a result, there were less produced. The paint is a little faded, but otherwise I can find no blemishes. 40 years ago, this piece was valued at $50. Sebastian Miniatures are series of small castable ceramic (chalkware) sculptures or figurines first produced by Prescott W Baston Sr. in 1938 until his death in 1984.
