Seijun Suzuki's Taisho Trilogy (DVD, 2006) *UNOPENED/SEALED*

Description: The Taisho Trilogy includes three of Seijun Suzuki's most infamous films, widely considered by cult film fanatics and critics alike to be his mightiest works. Zigeunerweisen (1980) - Based on the novel by Hyakken Uchida, this film is set in the decadence and nihilism of the 1920's. Centering on the relationships between four people who have been drawn together by the strings of fate, they may be driven mad by their own fears and desires! Kagero-za (1981) - Based on the novel by Izumi Kyoka, this film depicts a 1920's playwright who meets a beautiful woman- who may be the ghost of his patron's dead wife. Yumeji (1991) - A sensual, absurdist ghost story following real-life Japanese artist and poet Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934), who becomes involved with a beautiful widow who harbors a dark past- incensing both the rival of her dead husband's ghost, and the jealous lover who murdered him.
