Description: Gorgeous set of 4 French or Spanish framed lithographs from the 1800’s. (Frames are post 1930’s). Very ornate gold wooden frames with green paint detail. These frames measure 11 inches tall by 9 inches wide, and the lithograph inserts are 5.5 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide and just the the lithographs are covered with glass...all the rest is the wide frame. These look like lithographs and carry a Spanish certificate of guarantee, however the description of the artwork is in French. So not quite sure of the origin. These were purchased at the Paris Flea Market in Paris, France about 15 years ago. The lithographs are hand-painted, or they could be painted book plates out of antique books. Unsure and I didn’t want to rip them apart, since they are so beautifully framed and sealed. However these pictures depict four Nomadic Tribes of the Universe (entitled The Habitants of the Universe). These appear to be ancient European and Asian tribes from the 1400’s to 1600’s. The tribes are: 1. TUNGOUSES: This was a native Asian nomadic tribe, that lived in Siberia, that made their living by fishing and selling furs to Russian traders. They lived in the region to the north and the south of Yakoutsk, Russia. They married young, had many wives, and known for their polygamy. 2. YAKOUTSK: This is a Turkish tribe who lived in Russia in about 1632. They lived in the town of Yakoutsk in Russia, which is in East Siberia and now, one of the coldest cities in the world. City known for their wholly mammoths. These people were known for their animal husbandry, and raised horses, cattle and reindeer. In their day, they lived in a hut made of reindeer skin over wooden frames. The different tribes in this area where identified by the “shape” of the reindeer skin hurts. 3. KOURILIENS: Early Turkish nomads that may have later morphed into Kurds from Middle East. 4. MARIANNES: Unknown, but may be French in origin??? The Spanish certificate of guarantee, is written in Spanish and is as follows: CERTIFICADO DE GARANTIA (Certificate of Guaranty) Author: Omouinio ??? (French but not too easy to decipher...) Epoca: (age) 1800’s...sorry, can’t date better than this. Technica: (technique). Either hand painted lithographs or hand painted lithograph book plates. Marco: (framework) Wood Preccio: (cost). In Euros, so 1400 €, which is about $1,520 USD today. (Paris Flea Market is very, very expensive) EACH PICTURE HAS A SPANISH CERTIFICATE ATTACHED TO THE BACK (AS PICTURED)! The written descriptions are in French (I believe) and can’t quite make them out. Rather hard to read since they are hand written. Great set of beautiful antique artwork for your entry hall, living room/den, great room, dining room or bedroom. eBay Global Shipping Program: if you are an international buyer, outside of the US, please contact me prior to buying this item, so I can give you the proper dimensions of the packaging and the proper weight, so you will not be overcharged for international shipping.
