Description: This is for a set of 10 of these boxes. WWII US Army Medical Wooden Syringe Box M.D. USA Brass Latch Hinge Dovetail NOS This box was originally designed to hold a glass syringe and needles. There is a picture of one with a syringe in it to show how it was designed but there is no syringe or needles included. The box is very well crafted with dovetail joints on the corners. The hinge and the latch are both solid brass. The top is stamped M.D. U.S.A.. The M.D. apparently stands for Medical Department of the Army. This box is made out of hardwood, probably oak or maple. My research shows that these were used in the WWII era and possibly as far back as WWI. This is a new old stock NOS item. I discovered a few boxes of them at an estate in the Chicago area. This box could be used for many things, it is pocket sized and very strong. Great for anything that you do not want to have crushed. The clips inside could hold small tools or be easily removed with a pair of plyers. The box measures about 3 ½” X 2 ¼” X 1 1/8” on the outside and about 3 ¼” X 1 ¾” X ¾” on the inside.
