Description: ZOILA VENUSTA "Shoal Cape form" Beautiful golden specimen live taken, collected by scuba diver in 2008 on sponge off Shoal Cape, Esperance. Shoal Cape venusta are quite different to venusta from other locations. The habitat they live in is remarkable. They live inside a large lagoon that runs along the coast at Shoal Cape. The outside of the lagoon is bounded by a shallow reef bar that is pounded by heavy southern ocean swells. Between the outside reef and the inner shore reef the water is up to 18 meters deep with very strong currents as the water from the wave action drains along the coast then back out to sea. The location is accessible only to boats when the ocean swell is low. The few venusta collected were taken from ledges unde the outside reef and from bommies within the lagoon. Venusta from this location are subjects to defects and detritus in the nacre due to the violent habitat. The colors vary and be gold to ginger through to almost black. This great specie has a soft dorsal growth fold and a little grit pimple on labial side, but it's still a great piece for collection.
