Description: This is a scarce relic, the original poster for the audition which was used to create the Rick Schmidt indie film Showboat 1988: The Remake. Filmmaker Rick Schmidt received an AFI Grant in 1975 for $10,000 to make a film. The result was advertised as follows: When a San Francisco librarian decided to produce a filmed remake of the Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein musical Show Boat, a large number of actors and aspiring performers auditioned. The auditions, which included performances by nudists, tap-dancing nuns, and turtles were later televised, and this film includes that footage as well as interviews with the performers. This poster, created by Joe DiVincenzo, a friend of Schmidt's from CCAC art school who was in the advertising agency, was used to draw the Undiscovered to the audition where they agreed to be filmed. Precusor to the Who Wants to be a Star genre of reality television. The poster measures 23 by 35 inches. There couldn't have been many of these that were made, much less that survived.
