Description: On offer, we have "Pruning Tree", an original woodblock by Japanese artist Shuntei Miyagawa. It is signed with his seal and writing in the margins. The print is 14 1/2" X 10" including the margins. Interesting, it is (crooked) on a grey cardboard with handwritten titles and description including "Series Flowers Of The Floating World (Occupations Of Young Women" and "Pub: Akiyama Buyemon - Tokyo, 1898". The board is 15 1/4" X 22 1/2". This can be shipped with, or without, the cardboard: your choice. Without the board, shipping will cost much less. About the artist: Miyagawa Shuntei (1873-1914) Received his artistic education in painting and woodblock printmaking under the guidance of Tomioka Eisen, a renowned designer known for his contributions to kuchi-e and other distinctive Meiji prints. Specializing in serene genre images featuring children and women, Shuntei's depictions diverged from the typical scenes of the average Japanese citizen, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of upper-class families. (Artelino) This is in excellent antique condition. The print is bright, bold and clear. It has wear on the edges, especially the corners. The very old paper has been handled and has some light wrinkles and creases. I see one small spot on the lower right. As I am not an expert on art, please see my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who collects everything and is starting to part with a few of his treasures. He purchased this years ago at a charity auction for Ganna Walska's Lotusland Botanical Garden.
