Description: Signed, Rare, Limited Edition George Rodrigue - "Sometimes I Feel Like A Blue Dog" (1991) This is a signed, rare, limited edition George Rodrigue print from 1991 titled "Sometimes I Feel Like A Blue Dog." This piece is from Rodrigue’s early years, a period that presented challenges as he used paint instead of silkscreen ink for his prints. The paint application is very thick, making the prints susceptible to damages such as scratches, chips, and dings. Back in the early '90s, these prints were sold at a price point of $75 to $150. They were often rolled in tubes, thumb-tacked on dorm room walls, or even dry-mounted (glued down when framed). The frequent damages, combined with an average edition size of ninety prints, means that only a fraction of these early prints remain in good condition today. (These prints are now held in Rodrigue’s archives and are no longer offered for sale). About George Rodrigue: George Rodrigue (March 13, 1944 – December 14, 2013) was a renowned Cajun artist from New Iberia, Louisiana. He is best known for his Blue Dog series, inspired by his long-deceased childhood pet, Tiffany, whom he poses with other animals and people. Rodrigue demonstrated early art talent and, while ill for nearly a year, used watercolors and crayons to pass the time, paving the way for his future career. He studied at the University of Southwestern Louisiana and the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. Initially, Rodrigue painted Abstract Expressionist works but eventually returned to creating art that reflected his Cajun culture, including folk tales and bayou and swamp landscapes.
