Lund’s *The Work and the Glory* series is an epic saga that masterfully intertwines the drama of fictional storytelling with the rich, real-life history of the early Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Spanning nine volumes, the series invites readers on a journey through the turbulent and inspiring formative years of the Restoration, capturing the faith, sacrifice, and resilience of those who lived it. At the heart of the story are the fictional Steed family, whose lives become deeply entwined with the rise of the Church and the life of its founding prophet, Joseph Smith. As they navigate the triumphs and trials of their era, the Steeds represent the diversity of faith, doubt, and conviction present among those witnessing a modern-day religious awakening. Through the Steeds' experiences, Lund provides an intimate lens into the sweeping events that shaped the Restoration: the translation of the Book of Mormon, the organization of the Church, and the construction of the first temples. The series vividly portrays the challenges of the Saints, from persecution in Missouri and Illinois to the establishment of Nauvoo and the eventual westward migration to Utah. Key historical figures, including Joseph and Emma Smith, Brigham Young, and Parley P. Pratt, are brought to life, creating a seamless blend of fact and fiction that immerses readers in this pivotal time. Lund’s meticulous research and compelling storytelling illuminate not only the spiritual milestones but also the personal sacrifices and enduring humanity of those involved. What makes *The Work and the Glory* truly remarkable is its ability to convey universal themes of love, family, faith, and endurance. The series is not just about a religious movement—it is about people grappling with profound questions, making courageous choices, and forging a future amidst hardship. From heartfelt relationships to dramatic confrontations, the series captivates with its emotional depth and historical authenticity. For both members of the Church and those seeking to understand its origins, *The Work and the Glory* is an unforgettable journey into a story of hope, divine purpose, and unyielding perseverance. It is a tribute to the power of faith to overcome adversity and to transform the lives of individuals and communities alike.
