Description: SILK SCREEN PAINTING NATIVE AMERICAN KAI-SA PERCY SANDY "THE TEACHER" BEAVER Click images to enlarge Description For sale is a print titled "The Teacher;" it features a mama beaver teaching her youngster how to fell a tree. The artist is Kai-Sa (or Percy Sandy). I can just barely read part of his signature on the front lower right corner; it has faded away, but I can just make out "Sa" and possibly the Kai before it, but only because I have another of his paintings and the signature is very clear on that one. This is matted and needs a nice frame! I'm selling separately another of his animal paintings called The Game; several rabbits are chasing each other in that one. The back has a description, as follows: "Indian painting is the only native art to which our country may lay claim. We hope that with the years our people will acquire power without ever losing their precious heritage. These prints are faithfully reproduced by the silk screen process, by expertly trained Indian workers. It is the best process for reproducing these Indian paintings; many times so close to the original that it takes an expert to distinguish the difference. Percy Sandy - Indian name Kai-Sa - Red Moon; was born at Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico in 1918. Studied some art at Santa Fe Indian School where he illustrated the book "Sun Journey." Kai-Sa is a natural talented painter; he has exhibited in many places in the Southwest and has taken many prizes; now resides at Taos Pueblo in New Mexico where he is married to a Taos maiden. He can generally be found at the Inter Tribal ceremonial which is held in August each year at Gallup, New Mexico. (Obviously this was written several decades ago; probably in the 1960s or earlier.) He here portrays the animals he loves." If you wish to receive a shipping discount for purchasing multiple items from me, please put them all in your cart and purchase together. Thank you!
