Description: Please email with any questions. Small frame handbag circa 1890-1900, 6" wide, 5" high, 1 1/2" deep, 4 1/2" handle drop. Nickel-plated brass frame with push-button catch, hinged clasp on the flap of the outside pocket, bag lined with dark taupe leather. Body of the bag is covered in plum velvet, outside pocket with gusset made of plum leather with leather-lined velvet flap, handle of leather. The bag is worn- missing nap on the velvet, leather handle worn and splitting, section of the bag slipping out of the frame, wear to the nickel finish on the hardware. This bag would have been sufficient in size for any woman who probably carried little more than a handkerchief and calling cards- perhaps a comb and a house key too. Unmarked as to maker but this was beautifully made and designed to be both fashionable and efficient.
