Description: A small vintage / antique silverplated metal tray, floral decorated with roses. Pierced roses decoration on four sides, and an engraved rose at the center-bottom of the tray. 7" long x 4.75" wide, and about 0.75" deep. Marked with raised lettering on the back, at the edge : " Made In Japan ". ( see the photos ) Exact age not known, however I believe this was made before the war ; circa 1920s-1930s. The tray is a nice size for holding rings or other small jewelry, trinkets or other small items. Tarnished and with a couple of small dings, but otherwise in good condition. --------- Roses in Japan symbolize love and beauty , just as they do in Europe and America. Yellow roses in Japan have the additional meaning of " courage ", " self-sacrifice " and " friendship ." Though cultivated roses were introduced to Japan ( from China ) around 900 years ago, wild roses are native to the Japanese islands , where they have grown for countless thousands of years. --------- Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
