OP SITE is a transparent dressing and part of the Smith and Nephew wound care family. It is transparent, adhesive film, with a unique wound measurement grid for recording wound size. The OPSITE FLEXIGRID film is highly extensible and conformable, which combined with its high moisture vapour permeability, means the dressing can be left in place for up to 14 days or as directed by your healthcare professional. This minimizes interference at the wound site and reduces the amount of nursing time required. Each dressing measures 2 3/8in. x 2 3/4in. (6cm x 7cm) and is easily cut to dress awkward areas. Precautions OPSITE FLEXIGRID may be used on clinically infected wounds if the following precautions are followed: The patient should be under medical/clinical supervisionThe dressing should be changed dailyThe patient should be receiving suitable systemic treatment. Immuno-compromised patients and diabetic patients may require extra supervision. Care should be taken to avoid skin damage by repeated applications on patients with thin or fragile skin. In common with all adhesive products, some cases of irritation and/or maceration of the skin surrounding the wound have been reported. It should be noted that inappropriate use or too frequent dressing changes, particularly in patients with fragile skin, can result in skin stripping. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Step 1 Wash hands before and after treating the woundGently clean the wound removing any debris and dry the surrounding skin. Ensure surrounding skin remains dry before application. Do not apply to heavily bleeding wounds.Remove dressing from pouch.Remove the backing paper marked 1, taking care not to touch the adhesive side.Place the dressing over the wound using light pressure. Step 2 Remove the backing paper marked 2, and smooth the dressing down. Press around the edges of the dressing. Step 3 If required, record the wound size. Step 4 Remove the green grid and keep in patient's records. Step 5 To remove the dressing, lift one corner and slowly stretch the film in a motion that is parallel to the skin. Handle and dispose of the used dressing with care. The film is supported on a flexible grid carrier to provide a simple application system. When used on wounds, the OPSITE film creates a moist wound environment by retaining exudate. The film is moisture vapor permeable, allowing excess exudate to evaporate and therefore reduces risk of skin maceration. OPSITE FLEXIGRID is waterproof and aids in the prevention of bacterial contamination of the wound. The film is highly extensible and conformable and is easily adaptable to awkward areas. The grid carrier can be used to map wounds to monitor the healing process. If you are unsure of the severity of the wound or condition, consult a healthcare professional prior to the first use of this product. Precautions and Observations 1. During the body's normal healing process, unnecessary material is removed from the wound which will make the wound appear larger after the first few dressing changes. If the wound continues to get larger after the first few dressing changes, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional. 2. Should any signs of irritation (reddening, inflammation), maceration (over-hydration of the skin), hypergranutation (excess tissue) or sensitivity (allergic reactions) appear, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional. 3. OPSITE FLEXIGRID may be used on clinically infected wounds if the patient is under the care of a healthcare professional. 4. Care should be taken to avoid skin damage on repealed applications on patients with thin or fragile skin. 5. For blisters take extra care when removing the dressing, as the top layer of skin on the blister is very fragile. This layer of skin may come off if the dressing has not been left in place for very long. Cleanse the wound using sterile saline or appropriate wound cleanser. Dry the surrounding skin. 2. Choose a size of OPSITE FLEXIGRID larger than the wound. 3. Remove the backing paper and side tab. 4. Apply the dressing and smooth down. 5. If required, trace the wound on the flexible grid carrier to record wound area. 6. Remove the flexible grid carrier. Changing the Dressing To remove the OPSITE FLEXIGRID dressing, lift one corner of the dressing and gently stretch parallel to the skin. Frequency of Change OPSITE FLEXIGRID dressing may be left in place undisturbed for up to 14 days or as directed by your healthcare professional. HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL USE Indications Under the care of a healthcare professional, OPSITE FLEXIGRID dressings may be used in the management of: a. For the management of ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, or other wounds healing by secondary intent. 1. Cleanse the wound using sterile saline or appropriate wound cleanser. Dry the surrounding skin. 2. Choose a size of OPSITE FLEXIGRID larger than the wound. 3. Remove the backing paper and side tab. 4. Apply the dressing and smooth down. 5. If required, trace the wound on the flexible grid carrier to record wound area. 6. Remove the flexible grid carrier. Changing the Dressing To remove the OPSITE FLEXIGRID dressing, lift one corner of the dressing and stretch the dressing gently away parallel to the skin. Frequency of Change OPSITE FLEXIGRID dressing may be left in place undisturbed for up to 14 days. If excess exudate collects under the dressing, dressing may be changed more frequently to avoid leakage/maceration.
