Description: SNAKEFINGER’S VESTAL VIRGINS: Night of Desirable Objects. Used LP in Near Mint Condition; Ralph Records Catalog # RR8703; 1986 Condition: Vinyl Near Mint; Packaging Near Mint. All graphics like brand new, record played all of twice. (Vinyl is standard black, not colored.) Who was Snakefinger? Born Philip Charles Lithman in South London, UK, in 1949, he became interested in the Blues scene. (Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, remember, worked with John Mayall’s Blues Breakers.) After moving to San Francisco, he became friendly with the legendary group The Residents. He played violin—or more properly, fiddle, influenced by traditional British/Scottish music—in addition to guitar. This album, the man’s fourth and final, made an impact on college radio primarily because of the closing selections, “Sawney Bean”/“Sawney’s Death Dance.” A chilling tale of cannibalism back in the days of sailing ships. The following is entirely true: I had only been broadcasting Jazz on the radio station of the University of Connecticut for a few months when, in May or June of 1987, the radio station co-sponsored a Snakefinger concert on campus which I attended. Within a very brief period of time—I think no more than a month—we would learn that Snakefinger had died of a heart attack while touring the European Continent. He had suffered a heart attack previously, when only aged 21. A tragic tale indeed.PERSONNEL: Snakefinger—original compositions, guitar, violin, bottles, vocals; Eric Drew Feldman [worked with Captain Beefheart]—keyboards, synthetics (sic), vocals; Miguel Bertel—guitar, vocals; Ben Guy—bass guitar, vocals; John Ryan—drums.
