Description: Snellius Minerals Quartz Slice Amethyst Variety A1 This item is an amethyst slice from Snellius Minerals LLC designed to showcase the optical properties of quartz. This slice is particularly good at highlighting polysynthetic Brazil Law twinning. You will want a polariscope to fully appreciate the amethyst slice. The first photo shows the slice viewed with crossed polarizers, where the polysynthetic Brazil Law twinning is apparent. The video shows the slice at first with transmitted plane polarized light highlighting color zoning in the amethyst and then with crossed polarizers highlighting the polysynthetic Brazil Law twinning in this sample. We then add in a marble to act as a converging lens and show that there is a bit too much going on with this amethyst to generate a clean interference figure! The second photo shows the slice with transmitted plane polarized light, and the third photo shows the amethyst slice in normal light.
