Description: Soft Skills for Young Pros by Reet Sen Estimated delivery 3-12 business days Format Paperback Condition Brand New Description For those entering todays market, it doesnt take long to figure out that winning and losing in the real world is far different to passing or failing in school or university. There are fewer compliments, your grades dont land your dream job, and theres no such thing as a participation trophy. The aim of this book is to bridge the gap between what we are taught in higher education and the skills we need to thrive in the real world. Its Not Just My Opinion: This book represents opinions from 45 thriving young pros, whom Ive interviewed personally. In conducting these interviews, Ive attempted to attain as diverse a spread of opinions as possible. Interviews were conducted both formally, and informally, individually and in groups. The challenge lied in digging into the most interesting opinions while ensuring an even demographic representation. Given the diversity of the respondents, conflicting opinions were inevitable. However, it was interesting to see how much the internet has broken down barriers between right and wrong, and good and bad. Exactly What Youre Getting: First and foremost, this isnt "just another business book". At 72 pages, you can read and digest all the content in one day. Theres no beating around the bush and each chapter gets straight to the point (literally within the first sentence), this is my promise. The issues mentioned in this book are the most relevant and consistent themes across the responding body. These include: - The number one challenge youll face as a young pro. Page 20. - The biggest mistake you can make your early career, and how to avoid it. Page 29. - How to differentiate between constructive and destructive criticism in your 20s. Page 34. - Why you should invest a large chunk of your time in building your network. Page 45. - Networking strategies in 2017. Page 56. - How to be a good leader in your 20s. Page 62. If you are in university, higher education, or a young professional, this book is a must read. Author Biography Reet Sen is a Hult MBA Graduate, author and EdTech Marketer. Im currently living in London, pursuing a genuine passion for marketing, sales and entrepreneurship at leading edtech company, Full Fabric. Prior to this time, I had been doing a lot of travelling in a conscious effort to immerse myself in a variety of professional and social cultures. Ive been fortunate to have travelled to over 26 countries, lived in 6 and worked professionally in three - Australia, USA and UK. Having grown up, studied and worked in Brisbane, a large but low-populated city, at age 23 I found myself sinking into a professional and social comfort zone. I decided I needed a change of environment. I felt the need to travel but didnt want to spend my time in jobs that didnt match my career ambitions. Id always considered an MBA for professional reasons, and now I had nothing to lose. I joined Hult International Business School and Boston, MA became my home for a year. The multi-campus nature of Hult enabled me to make the move to London upon graduation. At work, in higher education, and throughout my career, Ive studied the transition of millennials at work. This book is dedicated to these lessons and observations. I set out writing this book to scratch my own itch on what fundamental qualities are needed to thrive in todays digital world. I started off discussing it with a few friends and blogging about the discussions. The engagement on this encouraged me to find the most insightful millennials in my network and compile their interviews into this book. I hope you enjoy reading these ideas as much as I enjoyed bringing them to you.
