Description: Listing is for a Vintage 1974 Solido #245 German Kpz Leopard I Tank, 105 mm Cannon, Die-cast Metal, 1:50, Mint Condition, NIB. Solido German Kpz Leopard I Tank is a heavy die-cast metal vehicle weighing by itself 14 ounces, with plastic wheels and 2 chain silver metal tank trends. Its turret rotates 360 degrees, and cannon elevates slightly and holds its position and lowers. Tank dimensions are 5 3/8" Long x 2 3/4" Wide x 2 1/8" High. On top of tank turret are two metal hatches and one with hinge open for soldier figure that comes with box. Solido #245 German Kpz Leopard I Tank still has its plastic machine gun, plastic soldier figure, and two plastic antennas in cellophane bag, and they have not been attached to tank. Box shows normal shelf ware and some nicks which are understandable for being 50 years old. It is painted with army green color. There is nothing broken, chipped, cracked, or missing from tank. Solido German Kpz Leopard I Tank is in Mint Condition and looks great. Made in France. This is an Original French Solido factory made die-cast model! Not a Chinese copy as sold by some others! Kampfpanzer Leopard was West Germany’s main battle tank manufactured by Krauss-Maffei that entered service in 1965. Developed in an era when HEAT warheads were thought to make conventional heavy armor of limited value, Leopard I design focused on effective firepower and mobility instead of heavy protection. It featured moderate frontal armor of 70 mm (2.75”), only effective against low caliber autocannons and heavy machine guns, giving it a high power-to-weight ratio. This, coupled with a modern suspension and drivetrain, gave Leopard I superior mobility and cross-country performance compared to most other main battle tanks of era, only rivaled by French AMX-30 and Swedish Stry 103. Leopard I’s main armament was a German license-built version of British Royal Ordnance L7 105 mm rifled gun, one of most effective and widespread tank guns of era. Leopard I had two 7.62 mm machine guns as secondary armament. 6565 Leopard Is were built during 1965 - 1984. Germany replaced Leopard I with heavy armored Leopard II with 120 mm cannon.I am downsizing and listing/selling on eBay some of my personal collection. Photographs are part of description. Also, Solido military and fire fighting models are built so well that over 55 years later they are as good as they were when they were built and first sold. Truly this is quite remarkable! Solido die-cast models require no gluing or painting. Each model is an instant display piece or diorama centerpiece straight from box.
