Description: This Sonnenschein SR-50 Solar Shunt Regulator was acquired for the behemoth bicycle project. It was used with the Dryfit A200 series battery and the solar panels on the bike trailer... I don't know the internal algorithm, but it basically intervenes when it thinks the battery is full and heats up to shunt excess power into its finned radiator. There is a thermistor to compensate for temperature variations at the battery, and the target terminal voltage is 2.3 volts per cell plus or minus the temperature coefficient effect. It can handle charge sources up to 5 amps. There are four mounting holes, and included are hex standoffs which look like 6-32. The original data sheet shown in the photos is included - and that has the more detailed specs. This is a 50 watt unit, and is a simple two terminal connection across the battery with no series shunt to monitor current. I haven't used it in about 30 years.
