Description: LP SEALED JACKET SAME Maxine Nightingale's 5th US album contains some superb songs that make it one of her best works. Maxine offers some of the best vocals that she ever recorded . The material includes some nice pop/soul uptempo songs, and some beautiful ballads that really illustrate the power that she has a singer. Contemporary sounds of the 80's include the opener NEVER GONNA BE ANOTHER ONE, given a 6 minute light funk production with background vocals, previously also recorded by Thelma Houston in a shorter version. SO RIGHT is given that Doobie Brother's keyboard sound that was all over the music scene at the time , and is not unlike The Pointer Sisters' HE'S SO SHY. The influence of A 60's sound is heard on STAND UP FOR YOUR HEART , sounding like girl group Motown. Also from that period is Bacharach/David's ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART, given a full orchestra type production that is one of the highlights on this album. Every song on here has great hooks, and are memorable to this day. SHAKIN' ME UP is a great one, a good mix of pop/soul with a memorable chorus. Maxine hit the charts with the ballad TURN TO ME, a duet with 60's soul veteran JIMMY RUFFIN, and the closer is yet another prime example of her stunning vocal delivery . I DON'T MISS YOU AT ALL, written by 60's hit songwriter Barry Mann, is one of the best ballads on any of her albums. This album gives a nod to Maxine's influences from the 60's, when she first got her start recording singles , way before even RIGHT BACK WHERE WE STARTED FROM. It's this mix of traditional hit sounds with an early 80's contemporary feel that make it a really nice album to listen to. It was on a new label, Highrise, and it made the album charts in 1982. Worth owning for any fan of great female pop & soul vocalists, and an ace album in Maxine Nightingale's catalog.
