Description: This Soviet Pilot leather helmet is in amazing shape, in my case it has a really crazy origin story. It was given to me in a Mexico City bar by a friend who received also as a gift by a former Mexican army officer. Why either of them had it remains a mystery! It's part of the SH series which was made during several decades starting from the information I found in the late 40's this one in particular size 54 was made in 1987 so you can say it's one of the few last made and compared to all others found in eBay I would say this is or the best kept or close to being the best; no tears, no oxidation, nothing broken, and not even any big scuffs on the leather (please check the pictures) The SH Soviet Pilot leather helmets are a type of aviation helmet used by Soviet pilots, particularly during the Cold War era. These helmets are distinctive for their leather construction, often in a brown or black color, and were designed to protect the pilot's head and accommodate communication equipment. Key Details Manufacturing Origin - These helmets were primarily produced in the Soviet Union, with various factories across the country involved in their production. Specific factories included those in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR), particularly in regions with established military equipment manufacturing. 2. Production Years: - The production of these leather helmets spanned several decades, beginning in the 1940s or 1950s and continuing into the late 1980s. They were gradually replaced by more modern composite helmets as aviation technology advanced. 3. Model Made in 1987: - Helmets produced in 1987 would be among the last of their kind, as the Soviet Union was on the brink of significant political and military changes. These helmets were made to standard specifications that had been in place for years, with minor updates or improvements. The SH series typically included integrated communication devices and compatibility with oxygen masks, reflecting the needs of Soviet pilots during the Cold War. 4. Design Features - The SH leather helmets were designed to be durable and functional, featuring a snug fit, protective padding, and compatibility with various communication devices used by pilots. They often included built-in earphones and microphone systems for in-flight communication. 5. Collectibility - Today, these helmets are considered collectible items, especially among military enthusiasts and collectors of Cold War-era memorabilia. The 1987 models, in particular, may be of interest due to their place in the late-Soviet period, just before the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
