Made in cardboard, with outside covering in pressed, red fabric coating. This plain design was strictly utilitarian, not made to impress, which reflects the Soviet approach to decorations: they were to be worn, not stored in a drawer. Consequently, Soviet decorations were always of top quality whereas the boxes, although decent looking, were nothing spectacular - unlike many of their Western or even Eastern European counterparts. A side effect of this mentality is that Soviet award boxes were often discarded and are nowadays quite hard to find. The condition is very good! Shows only very light wear on the exterior; the red fabric has a scuff on the lid but is firmly attached everywhere. Please note that this box is generic and does not show the name of the award - like all Soviet medal boxes - so this will be correct for almost any decoration. This particular mall box was made between the early 1940s and the mid-1960s. This, however, is very similar to World War II era boxes. The box is damaged. The condition of the box, see the photo.
