St. Brendan's Bantry Boat Bronze Plaque ~ Wild Goose Studio, Cork, Ireland

Description: St. Brendan's Bantry Boat Bronze Plaque ~ Wild Goose Studio, Cork, IrelandThis beautiful Irish St. Brendan's Bantry Boat is a unique piece of wall art. A replica of the Kilnaruane carved pillar stone found on a hillside overlooking Bantry Bay, was hand cast in the Wild Goose Studio at Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland.A bronze plaque with ceramic resin core, this original design by Kathleen Smyth, showcases the craftsmanship of Ireland. It can be hung either vertically (historically correct position) or horizontally if that is more appealing to your senses. With a design inspired by St. Brendan's legendary voyage, this boat is a symbol of adventure and faith. St. Brendan is the patron saint of sailors and travelers. The Bantry Boat - This is a reproduction of a little-known carving. A"curragh" or leather boat, with a helmsman urging on 4 oarsmen as they row toward heaven - the boat is vertical in the original amidst a sea of crosses perhaps commemorating St. Brendan the Navigator, who in the sixth century with his crew of 4 monks may have discovered America long before the Vikings and almost 1,000 years before Columbus. Certainly, Brendan is every man on life's long hard journey, or like Dante, 'nell mezzo del cammin di nostravita', sailing to find heaven and hell across the waters of the Atlantic. Also, it can be interpreted as the Church ferrying the people of God to heaven through a world of difficulties, or as in Jungian psychology, the psyche gathers together the 4 cognitive functions, thinking, feeling, sensation, and intuition to voyage in unison to wholeness. Its meaning is up to your decoding!Dimensions: Approximately 12.5" W x 5.5" H x .25" DCondition: No chips, cracks, or dents. The studio label remains intact and affixed to the reverse side with some very slight marring. Please review the pictures carefully since this item cannot be exchanged or returned.Shipped only to buyers in the lower 48 Continental USAWe proudly reuse shipping material when we can to cut down waste to prevent our beloved planet from drowning in a sea of packaging debris!
