On February 24, 2022, as a result of the attack of the Russian occupation forces on Snake Island by the Moskva missile cruiser, the servicemen of the border detachment were given an ultimatum and they were threatened with murder if the Ukrainian border guards did not lay down their arms and turn off the radar systems. On the same day, Russian occupiers captured 13 Ukrainian border guards, who had previously announced on the radio the catchphrase of this war: “Russian warship, go F*** yourself”, became a symbol of the courage of the Ukrainian people. Ukrposhta put into circulation a new block of postage stamps "Lighthouses of Ukraine". As the press service of the state enterprise notes, the postal issue is dedicated to Ukrainian lighthouses and continues the series of postage stamps started in 2009-2010. Among the lighthouses depicted on the stamps of the current issue, there are Stanislav-Adzhigolsky Zadny, Biryuchy lighthouse on Biryuchy Island (Kherson region), a unique lighthouse on Snake Island in the Black Sea (Odessa region), as well as three Crimean lighthouses - Ilyinsky (on Cape St. Elijah) , Meganomsky (at Cape Meganom) and Evpatoria (in Kalamitsky Bay). Solemn special cancellation of stamps took place on the territory of the highest lighthouse in Ukraine - Stanislav-Adzhigolsky Zadniy. The celebrations were attended by the General Director of "Ukrposhta" Igor Smelyansky and the head of the branch "Mykolaiv District of the State Hydrography" Oleg Oleinik. As a result of the occupation of Crimea, Ukraine temporarily lost control over 36 lighthouses. In addition, the Shirokino lighthouse in the Donetsk region was destroyed during the hostilities. Wishing to tell more about the beauty and uniqueness of Ukrainian lighthouses, we suggested that Ukrposhta continue the thematic series of postage stamps.
