It is Sold As-Is. Larratte learned pottery at an early age. He received most of his education and professional training in Cap Haitian. He took art courses at the Foundation Vincent in 1957, specializing in Ceramics. In order to pay for his education, he worked as a tailor, barber and accountant. In 1958, he moved to Port-au-Prince. In the early 1960?s, he turned to wood sculpture and consolidated his style. He devoted himself to wood sculpture until 1973.January 1, 1973, marked the beginning of Laratte's fascination with stone. On that night, he had a dream. A voice commanded him to pick up rocks along the riverbeds and seashore and free the spirits imprisoned in them. Since this dream, Laratte has worked exclusively with stones. Georges Laratte has studied ceramics and sculptures. In 1960 Laratte turned to wood sculpture. In 1965 he devoted himself exclusively to sculpture after trying painting. In 1971, he had exhibitions held at the Suzuki Gallery and Metropolitan Museum in New York. In 1973, Laratte became the first Haitian artist to sculpt faces in black stones such as marble, quartz, and shell stone.He exhibited in Guadeloupe, the United States, Martinique, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.
