Sterling Silver & 10K Gold Ring, Sz 5.5, w Carved Glass Scorpio Sign Intaglio

Description: Small ring with a sterling silver stone basket soldered onto a yellow gold shank. The stone seems to be glass and features a nice carving of a scorpion and the Scorpio horoscope symbol. The stone is flat on top and faceted to a point on the bottom. The inside of the band is stamped "...& SIL" for "[something] & silver," but the part before the "&" is obscured. It's presumably the purity of the gold shank, but it's not readable. The band tests 14K, but not with much conviction, so I think it's probably 12K, but I'm guaranteeing it's at least 10K. The combination of silver with gold in this fashion usually pre-dates the widespread use of white gold in the 1920s. When designers and manufacturers needed white metal, they would either use a layer of silver (or platinum) over gold, or they would combine the white metal with yellow gold, as was done with this ring, combining a white stone basket and a yellow gold shank. Having said all that, I have no idea when this ring was made. It's definitely vintage, but whether it's antique (over 100 years old) is anyone's guess.
