Description: Sterling William Suckling Birmingham England Coffee Pot c.1950 Mono “U” 740 g For consideration is this vintage sterling silver four-toed coffee pot made circa 1950 by William Suckling Ltd., in Birmingham, England. It is monogrammed on one side with the letter “U” in old English Script or Gothic Font and features a hand carved wood handle and lid finial. This coffee pot measures 8½ inches tall, 8½ inches from spout to handle and the inside oval mouth measures 2¾ inches long by 1 7/8 inches wide. The base is 4-toed in fabulous Fleur Di Lis shaped feet. The top of the pot has a wavy edge and beaded rim. This has been cleaned with Simichrome Polish and bears some damage. There is a dent on the left front above the foot (while holding the pot in your right hand) and a dent on the lid (see photos). The wood handle and finial are fixed and stable and there is light surface scratching. The pot is marked a number of places – the lid finial (Mickey Mouse ears), under the hinged lid and the base of the pot. The finial has the letter “A” mark on one side, the underside of the lid has a lion and a letter “A” mark (see photos). At the 12 o’clock position, the base is marked “S L”. It is missing the letter “D” which should follow the letter “L”. This is the mark for Suckling Ltd., the maker manufacturer of this piece. At the 3 o’clock position there is a letter “A” which is the year of manufacture of 1950. At the 6 o’clock position is the lion, which represents the sterling mark, intended to indicate the purity of the silver used in the piece. (Pieces assayed in England will bear a sterling mark in the image of a lion passant (profile from the side). At the 9 o’clock position is the anchor which represents the location, Birmingham, England. Buyer will pay shipping on a 3 pound box. Thank you for looking!
