Includes ceramic display box and all packaging and papers. This pre-owned pen has never been used nor inked. It is said in ancient Greece's mythological times a contest rose between the goddess Athena and the god Poseidon about which of them had the right to be worshipped in Attica's capital. Zeus, father of the gods, decided that there was to be a competition, and that the inhabitants of the city itself would be the judges: the god who would offer the most beautiful gift would give its name to the town, and would be worshipped.Athena brought a big leafy olive tree. Poseidon touched a rock with his trident and a horse sprang out of it. The people chose the olive tree. The town was then named Athens after Athena, and the tree was kept in the sacred enclosure of the Acropolis.In this precious handicraft fountain pen, Stipula recalls that episode of classical mythology. Through the purity of gold and silver and the simplicity of lines the sculptor Paolo Cerrini interprets the timeless emotion of giving. Materials: 925/1000 Silver; Black Ebonite. Ebonite, a traditional material in the history of pen manufacturing, is the result of natural rubber vulcanized with sulphur and is completely ink-proof. Cap: precious solid metal, engraved as a bas-relief. Hand chiseled and signed by the sculptor, it has been obtained through the ancient proceeding of "lost wax". The precious metal employed is about 35 grams 925/1000 sterling silver. Barrel: it is obtained by turning one solid ebonite bar. Clip: it is made of precious metal and provided with an internal steelspring; it represents "Athena's olive tree" Ink filling: the pen is equipped with the "three classical filling systems"cartridge, convertor, directly in the barrel. The impermeability of ebonite and the particular construction allow to fill the ink directly in the barrel. As accessory, a little pump turned in plexiglass is enclosed in the box.The capacity of the pump is the same as the barrel: in one single operation it is possible to fill the pen with the exact quantity of ink. Nib: large 750/1000 gold nib, two coloured with rodium treatment. Case: a particular box, handmade in Impruneta's Terracotta, contains "Il Dono". The shape of the box is in the style of a classical Greece's temple. The central part of the cover is 925/1000 sterling silver. "Il Dono" by Stipula can be filled with ink in three different ways: cartridge, convertor, direct filling in the barrel (fig. 1). For direct filling in the barrel use the pump (fig. 2) in the following way:1) unscrew the barrel and make sure it's completely empty; 2) keep the pump's button pushed and put it into the ink; 3) release the button;4) put the pump over the mouth of the barrel:5) push the pump's button; 6) close the barrel turning the screw.
