He experiences earth culture through Martian eyes, and imparts some of Martian culture to the earth. The 1961 book won the Hugo for best science fiction novel in 1961. It became the first science fiction novel to make the New York Times bestseller list. Avon produced the first printing of the first paperback edition. Published by Avon in June 1962, New York, Avon Number V-2056, cover art by Neil Boyle, cover price 75¢. This would have been the edition widely read by science fiction fans in the early 1960s. Very good condition. Pages clean though tanned, binding tight and square, corners sharp. Pages show no marks, no underlining, no highlighting, no folds, no creases, no rips, and no tears. Reading crease, light wear at the base of the spine, as seen in photos. Not ex-library.
